About SJA
Teachers & Staff
St. John Academy is rooted in a rich tradition of academic excellence and spiritual formation. Our teachers, resource specialists, and support staff are committed to lifelong learning and putting this practice into action with over 3,600 hours of professional development coursework over the last three years.
To help support our dedicated teachers, we offer a variety of ongoing staff development activities and faculty meetings – to collectively raise issues and concerns, set and reach new teaching goals, and share innovative teaching practices. Every year, St. John Academy teachers attend the annual “Diocesan Institute,” and the “Summer Seminar Program,” both sponsored by the Diocese of Arlington, Virginia. At these seminars, SJA teachers participate in courses and deepen their understanding of many different topics covered over the course of the academic year. On-site computer technology courses are also offered on a regular basis – to keep faculty members proficient in all aspects of technology used in the classroom, and throughout the school. Our teachers also have access to on-line tutorials – to broaden their knowledge of particular subject areas, and further their own education.
St. John Academy is proud that the average tenure of its faculty is ten years. Our average classroom student-to-teacher ratio is 21:1. And our student test scores consistently exceed the average test scores of the other schools in the Diocese of Arlington, Virginia in all subjects.
