Letters from PTO President, Andrew White
Dear Saint John Parents,
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the PTO Program at Saint John Academy. The
PTO's mission is to support you, our teachers and our staff in creating an outstanding educational and
spiritual community for our children. Our goal is 100% participation, in some capacity, from each family.
Parent involvement in the PTO is one of the most significant contributions you can make to the school, for
your kids and frankly for yourself, because this is the fun stuff!
About the PTO
PTO activities happen every day at Saint John with parents who volunteer in, and out of school. Helping out in the classroom,
volunteering in the library, preparing our school lunch programs, funding a project, working with the Dad’s club, chairing a PTO
committee, or assisting at a PTO social event, are all examples of PTO activities which rely upon your involvement.
The PTO provides many opportunities to jump in, help out, and score some volunteer hours. Every year there is a new pool of
parents who we know have invaluable resources they could contribute, if asked. Well, we are asking you today. Please, step up to
the plate and help us out. Do what you can, and have fun doing it!
We have broken down four ways that you can volunteer this year; PTO Dues, PTO Social / Fundraising Participation, School
Programs, and Classroom Participation.
PTO Dues
We request that each family participate by funding the PTO General Fund with minimum dues of $25.oo per family. We also
have graduated levels if you would like to make an additional, and much needed impact. The PTO dues are funds earmarked for
underwriting the cost of back to school events, communication and preparation, as well as annual social and fundraising events.
These events make going back to school special for all of our kids, and create positive memories, as they are the soul of what going
to Saint John School is all about. We would like to continue and improve on these things with your support.
PTO Social and Fundraising Activities
Sign up and help out! Whether it’s chairing an entire event, helping on the committee, underwriting a fundraiser, helping with
set up or clean up or simply attending and having a fun evening out! We have got some wonderful things planned for this year!
School Programs
The possibilities are endless here. Lunch programs, DFE Host Committee, Dad’s Club, Catholic Schools Week, Pancake Breakfasts,
Bake Sales, Book Fairs, Library, Art, Playground Monitors, we need you to check one of these boxes with at least one family
member during the school year! Opportunities to sign up for these things are available during 2010-2011 Back to School Night and
throughout the year.
Classroom Participation
Room Mothers and Fathers, book readers, class project volunteers, field trip volunteers, teacher appreciation, special art projects,
educational presentations, you name it, the teachers would love to have your help at least one time this year… and more if you can.
Opportunities to sign up for these things are available during 2010-2011 Back to School Night and throughout the year.
On behalf of the PTO Board, and Father Scalia, thank you for your support of the PTO!
Sincerely,
Andrew White, PTO President and The Saint John PTO Board
Parent
Teacher Organization (PTO)
The
PTO at St. John Academy is a dues-free organization. All
parents are automatically members and free to
participate in General PTO meetings. The PTO's mission
is to support the teachers and staff in maximizing the
experiences and enrichment of our children and in
building a strong community around them.
The
Board of Directors is made up of the elected Officers
and Committee Chairs.
The Board meets monthly, and hosts a General,
all-parent meeting approximately three times per year.
PTO activities are organized by the respective
Committee chairs and their volunteer members.
Parents are welcome – and encouraged - to join
one or more of the committees listed on the Board
of Directors section of the website.
We
are an all-inclusive organization that strives for
maximum participation from the parent community. There
are volunteer opportunities to fit any schedule or
time constraint.
Any inquiries to the Board may be directed to
the respective committee chair(s) or placed in the PTO
mailbox in the school office. We look forward to
hearing from you and seeing you around at the various
PTO-sponsored events throughout the year!
